The cost of adding a pool would increase the overall cost of the facility by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Plus, the cost of maintaining and staffing that pool overtime would increase the monthly sustainment costs by tens of thousands of dollars. While we would love to include a pool in the facility, the costs associated with that outweigh the advantages. We are not just focusing on the build of the facility but also the ability to maintain it for years to come.
No, the building and the land it sits on will be owned by a 501(c)(3) - Cabool Community Center Incorporated. The 501(c)(3) will then lease the building back to the YMCA to occupy the location and manage the facility.
Until final construction bids are received, the expected cost is between $6 and $8 million.
The current estimate for the groundbreaking is in the Spring of 2026. Many variables could come into play that affect that, the primary being fundraising.
The city will work on infrastructure that is needed to support the facility. Road, water, sewage, lights, etc…. Once complete, the city will help support the YMCA as it does the current YMCA.
When the new facility is close to being complete and opened for business, the current YMCA building will be sold.
